INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON
ANALYSIS (July 1 to July 21, 2004)
Hangzhou-Beijing, China

INTRODUCTION:
A plethora of important geometric heat flows are of current interest. These flows are characterized by the deformation of geometric objects. The study of singularities in geometric heat flows has had a tremendous impact on analysis and mathematics in general. Via geometric evolution equations, the powerful methods of nonlinear analysis can be applied to mathematical problems which can be approached geometrically. Geometric evolution equations have seen remarkable growth and development in the past twenty years. Methods and techniques which have been developed for one geometric evolution equation often apply to numerous others. Many techniques have recently been developed and used to study geometric evolution equations. In such a rapidly developing area as geometric evolution equations, it’s often important for researchers, both senior and junior, to have access to the most recent developments in the field. We plan to ask participants to send the organizers abstracts of their talks, and to bring recent papers for distribution during the workshop. Starting this summer, the CMS at Zhejiang University will sponsor a series of analysis summer schools spaning over next several years on various topics in analysis and related fields. Some of the programs will be in joint with other institutions, in particular, the Morningside center at Academia Sinica, Beijing.
